Liturgia | Guide

For many, it’s motherhood that shows us our need for better. The weight of the role and the responsibility of introducing someone to God’s world calls a heart to order. We’re suddenly aware our loves, thoughts, and actions can form us towards or away from God. We realize the same is true for the children in our care. Figuring out how to live, though, is not so clear. How is one to learn better habits, better ideas, and better loves? And with children in tow?

When I realized I didn’t love the right things in the right way—that ordo amoris—I wasn’t sure where to look for advice. Instagram and mom blogs had plenty to affiliate link but nothing that seemed to last beyond the next post. Google gave me endless advice on how to love myself first but not how to better love. Christian circles shied away from definitive statements about practices or ideals that might smell of legalism. I wanted to bring truth, goodness, and beauty into my home in a formative way but it seemed like a far-off dream.

Until I came back to liturgy.

This 13-page resource includes:

  • Foundational definitions and explanations of liturgy, theological liturgy, and commonplace liturgy

  • Overview of the historic church calendar, including colors, traditions, and summaries of each season and how the calendar works as a whole

  • A philosophical and practical breakdown of how to use Mason’s instruments of education—atmosphere, discipline, and life—to point to God’s truths in the home by engaging all five senses to form minds, imaginations, and hearts with a vision of 'the good life'
